They’re already here!?.
Humans are such silly creatures. The military has released films of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (the new term for UFOs) there’s been a spate of films released since the appearance of Oumuamua.
Oh, the speculation that this caused… They (we) created a name, that was sufficient for most haoles (pronounced howl-ees), Oumuamua. It means a messenger or scout from afar arriving first. It came, it went, and the UAP/UFO conspiracy theorists all had they say.
But if extraterrestrial life ever comes to earth, would we even recognize it? Hollywood has created this image, via the vast collection of “alien” movies. The SETI program used human logic, developed in human culture, over a long period of human history, to come up with a method of communicating with our “neighbors” based on human science.
Human science has its roots in natural philosophy. Natural philosophy or philosophy of nature is the philosophical study of physics, that is, nature and the physical universe. Human philosophy is based on ancient schools of philosophy that developed long before experimental, observational, descriptive science was just starting to become a glimmer in the eyes of humanity.
Every concept we have about what extraterrestrial life would/could look like, in fact, is an extrapolation of what we know about human life.
Water-based, carbon-based, oxygen-breathing humans. Using a model based on the radiation frequency of atomic or free hydrogen, that assumes a radio technology based on human-developed radio. Using human-developed antennae technology.
These beings could presumably be much, much older civilizations than we have… we are a mere 500 years into what we consider science and almost 400 years since we discovered electricity. They could be billions of years older and more developed than we are.
But that is typical of humanity, isn’t it? Always going off half-cocked, riding our hubris and ambition into glory (for self).
Do I believe there is alien life on other planets? Yes! Do I believe there is extraterrestrial life already on this planet? Maybe, but how are we supposed to know, we’re just a bunch of little kids in the primary school schoolyard wishing we were all grown up.. still fighting among ourselves, playing “king of the hill.”
Yes, they could be humanoid… I once heard that’s how blues eyes entered the human genome… being from a dimly lit planet… how convenient that human science “traced it back to Scandinavia.”
Don’t get me wrong. I’m still a great supporter of science. Really, I am. But we should be more ready for the “alien.” Because they may be here already…
